The session
What a prenatal session involves
Prenatal appointments at Stillwater are done by therapists with additional prenatal massage training. The intake conversation covers how far along you are and how the pregnancy has been going, plus anything your midwife or doctor has flagged. From there you and your RMT agree on where the work will focus, the same way every session here starts.
The work itself is gentler in pace than it might be otherwise, with pressure and positioning adapted to your stage. Your therapist explains each change before it happens, and the check-ins are more frequent than in a standard session because comfort shifts faster when you are pregnant. There is no set script. Some clients want the lower back and hips worked for the whole hour, others want a general, quieter session.
Who books it
Who books prenatal massage in Burlington
Most of our prenatal clients are in their second or third trimester, when sleep gets harder and the body is carrying weight in new places. Some come in on a suggestion from their midwife or family doctor, and plenty book on their own after a friend mentions it. First pregnancy or fourth, the appointment runs the same way, planned around you on the day.
Many keep a regular spot through to their due date, and some come back postpartum, which is a normal massage therapy session again with positioning as comfortable as you need it to be. If firmer, more specific work is what you are after later on, our deep tissue page explains how that differs.
On the table
What to expect on the table
You are positioned on your side with pillows and supports arranged so you can settle in without holding yourself up. We do not use face-down positioning for pregnant clients. Draping keeps you covered with a sheet and blanket the whole time and only the area being worked on is uncovered. You undress to whatever level you are comfortable with. Your therapist leaves the room while you get on and off the table, and nothing happens without your consent. Need to change sides or take a break? Say so at any point.
If it is your first visit, arrive about ten minutes early for the health history form, or fill it in online when you book. The clinic is at 1290 Brant St in downtown Burlington, a short drive up from the lakeshore and about ten minutes from Burlington GO, with free parking in the lot behind the building. You leave with your official receipt, and tipping is not expected. The menu price is the full price.
