Wiring the stone homes of Fergus
Fergus is one of our favourite places to work and one of the trickier ones. The limestone century homes around St. Andrew Street and the blocks above the Grand River still hide plenty of original wiring behind their plaster. We find live knob-and-tube in Fergus attics every month, usually while looking at something else entirely.
Insurers have caught up to it. Many now want knob-and-tube replaced or remediated before they will renew a policy, and they want paperwork proving the work was done properly. We rewire century homes one circuit at a time when the budget needs it, and we fish new cable through the walls to keep the original plaster intact. The ESA inspection certificate goes to you and your insurer when we are done.
The rest of our Fergus work looks like the rest of the town: panel upgrades in the postwar bungalows, plus new circuits for basement finishes and EV chargers in the newer streets south of the river. Panel upgrades in Fergus start from $2,400 as of June 2026, the same as our Guelph pricing, and travel is built into the quote.
