What decides the price?

Distance decides most of it. A charger on the wall beside the panel is the cheap end of the range. A charger on the far side of the house, fed through finished ceilings or out to a detached garage, is the expensive end. The other factors are the wall finishes along the route and whether your panel has two spare breaker spaces. An outdoor mount adds a little for weatherproofing.

The subdivisions off Gordon Street are usually simple, with a newer panel and a short run to an attached garage. The older houses downtown are where the quote takes more thought, and it is why we look before we give a firm number.

Do I need a panel upgrade first?

Only if the load calculation says so. A proper install starts with that calculation, not with drilling. Many 100 amp homes carry a Level 2 charger fine, sometimes with a load management device instead of a full upgrade. Older 60 amp services almost always need the upgrade first, which starts from $2,400 as of June 2026. If your panel does need work, you get one written quote covering the whole job, not a surprise halfway through.

Is the permit included?

Yes, always. Every charger we install is filed with the Electrical Safety Authority and inspected. An unpermitted charger install can void your insurance, and some manufacturers will not honour the warranty without the inspection certificate. The certificate lands in your hand at the end of the job, the same as with every other job we do.

How long does the install take?

Most installs are done in half a day once we are on site. The wait for a booking is the longer part: EV charger installs book two to three weeks out in spring. If a new vehicle has a delivery date, call us when you sign the paperwork, not when the car lands in the driveway.

Which charger should I buy?

Buy the charger after the quote, not before. The right unit depends on your vehicle and your panel, and on where you park. We install chargers across Guelph and the villages around it, including plenty on rural properties near Rockwood where the run from panel to parking spot is the whole job. Tell us the vehicle and where you park, and the quote covers everything including the hardware options.

Thinking about a charger? Send the job through the quote form or text a photo of your panel to (519) 555-0184 and we will tell you where your house likely sits in the range.
