Roofing in Douro

Farmhouse roofs, called honestly

Most of what we roof in Douro is a century farmhouse: a big, simple gable with board decking under the shingles and a brick chimney that has needed new flashing since before we were in business. Out here the wind gets a longer run at the roof than it does in town, and a farmhouse with a failing ridge line shows it fast.

The question we get most in Douro is steel or shingle. Our honest answer: architectural shingle does the job on most farmhouses at roughly half the upfront cost of steel, and our 10-year workmanship warranty stands behind it. Steel earns its price on a building you want to roof once and forget. We install shingle, and when steel is genuinely the better call for your building we will tell you so before we quote anything.

We also handle the low-slope roofs on kitchen additions and attached sheds with a proper membrane, flashed into the main roof so the joint stops being the leak it usually is.

A recent job

A farmhouse between Douro and Warsaw

In June 2026 we replaced the roof on a farmhouse out on the fourth line. The shingles had been on since the barn still held cattle, well past 25 years. Tear-off found soft boards around the chimney, so we re-sheeted that section and re-flashed the brick before the new shingles went down. Two days on site, one written price and the invoice matched it to the dollar.

Getting to you

Close enough to come back

We are out your way most weeks. From the shop it is about a 15-minute run east, past the Douro Community Centre and up the concession roads, and no, there is no charge for the drive. Rural jobs get the same free inspection and the same written quote as a house in town.

We also work in Lakefield and Bridgenorth. The full list of what we do is on our services page.

Common questions

Douro questions we hear most

Should I put steel or asphalt shingles on my farmhouse?

For most Douro farmhouses, architectural shingle is the sensible call at roughly half the upfront cost of steel, backed by our 10-year workmanship warranty. Steel makes sense on a building you want to roof once and never think about again. We give you the honest comparison at the inspection and tell you which one we would put on our own place.

Do you charge extra to come out to the concessions?

No. Douro is about a 15-minute drive from our Chemong Road shop and we are in the township most weeks. The inspection is free and the written quote costs nothing, the same as it does in town.

Can you put new shingles over the old ones?

We will not. A roof-over hides the decking and traps heat, and it voids most manufacturer coverage. Every replacement we do is a full tear-off, and on older farmhouses the tear-off is where we find the soft boards that would have become next winter's leak.

Farmhouse roof past its best? Get the straight answer.

We come out and get on the roof, then tell you what it needs. If it has winters left, we say so and you spend nothing.
