Back and neck tension
Back and neck tension is the most common reason people climb our stairs. A session at Willow Osteopathy does not go straight to the sore spot. It starts with a gentle look at how your whole body is moving, because the place that aches and the place that is working too hard are often two different places.
First visits currently book about a week out.
Why we start with the whole body
A neck rarely gets tight on its own. It usually tightens because something below it has stopped doing its share.
Much of the back and neck tension we see in Hamilton comes from days that hold one shape for too long. Screens at the hospital campuses and the downtown offices, long stretches behind the wheel on the 403, a phone read in bed. The neck ends up bracing for hours at a time, and the upper back slowly forgets how to help.
So before any treatment, Elena looks at the bigger picture. How your shoulders sit when you think no one is watching. How far your upper back turns before the neck takes over. How your breath moves through the ribs. That assessment shapes the whole hour, and she talks you through what she is noticing as she goes.
What a session feels like for this
Slower and quieter than most people expect. There is no cracking and no force, and nothing happens without your okay.
A conversation about your days
What your work asks of your neck and back, how long the tension has been building, and what you have already tried. The history matters as much as the ache.
A gentle whole-body assessment
Elena watches how you stand and turn, then uses her hands to feel where the body is holding on. Light, deliberate work through your own clothes.
Slow hands-on treatment
Soft-tissue work and gentle joint mobilization across the areas the assessment pointed to, with a plain summary of what was found at the end.
One honest note: in Ontario, manual osteopathic practitioners are not physicians, and this page describes a process, not a promised result. If anything in your history suggests a doctor should look at your back or neck first, Elena will say so plainly and hold off.

Your first visit, from Locke Street
The studio is up one flight of stairs at 42 Locke St S, above the shops in the Kirkendall neighbourhood. Most people with desk-heavy days book the end of the afternoon and walk in still wearing the day; that is fine, because treatment happens through light, loose layers. You will spend the first part of the hour talking, the rest on the table, and you leave with a plain summary of what was found and a sensible next step. Nothing is prescribed by the door on the way out, and there are no packages to commit to.
We are a few minutes from St. Joseph's Healthcare and about ten from McMaster, with street parking on Locke and the side streets. If stairs are hard for you right now, mention it when you book and we will plan the visit around them.
Back and neck questions, answered plainly
Will my neck be cracked during treatment?
No. Quick, forceful adjustments are not part of how Elena works. Techniques for the neck are slow and gentle, every one is explained before it is used, and you can decline any of them.
Can I come in my work clothes?
Yes. Treatment happens through light, loose layers, so most work clothes are fine. If you can turn your head and reach forward comfortably in what you are wearing, it will work. Some people keep a t-shirt in their bag for the visit.
Do I need a diagnosis before I book?
No. You do not need a referral or a diagnosis to book. Your first visit starts with a screening conversation, and if anything in your history suggests a doctor should look first, Elena will say so plainly and hold off on treatment.
